Fossil Rim Fun!!

Warning - LOTS of pictures!!

We decided to take a little mini-cation today and go enjoy some family time! We hopped in the car at 8 am this morning and headed south of Ft Worth to a little town called Glen Rose where they pride themselves in an animal conservatory.

You buy some animal food and load up in your car for a 10 mile drive and experience wildlife up close and personal.

The kids had a blast!!

By far - the highlight (at least for me) was feeding the Giraffes! There was one Giraffe in particular that held up the line of cars because he was eating from EVERYONE's hand. As we waited our turn there was another Giraffe grazing not far from our car (below) - he seemed completely uninterested in the cars holding out their food - UNTIL - Matt said "here Giraffe" and at that very moment he turned and walked right up to our car!! I admit, Matt probably had nothing to do with his decision but it's fun to think he did :) The Giraffe came to my window, ate from my hand, and headed off into the pasture, uninterested in anyone else.

We pulled forward and continued to wait patiently to meet the friendly Giraffe up ahead. As we waited another Giraffe stood in the shade nearby - AGAIN - Matt said "here Giraffe" and Giraffe #2 headed to our car!!! This one ate from my hand several times as well as Sam's!! She was beyond excited!! Matt was a little more hesitant to let him eat from his hand, instead he opted to throw his food in the general direction!

By this time we were probably hated by the other cars - and yet the 3rd Giraffe came right up to our car and enjoyed what was probably his 15th snack of the day!!

Sam even got to pet his leg - very tame Giraffes!

Enjoying some Zebras!

Emu....

Each time Matt would say, "I frow Mommy?" (he would proceed to throw once he got the OK) Then he would say, "here deer, eat" - "Mommy, he eat me food!"

Chuck and I were trampled multiple times throughout our drive as Sam and Matt would scramble for the best view!

Hello there!

For a little girl who currently has a ridiculous fear of bugs - she has NO problem petting and feeding these extremely LARGE animals that could potentially hurt her- perspective little one, perspective!

Half way through the drive they have an overlook tower where you can eat and enjoy a small children's petting zoo. All very nice!

Matt preferred to pet the end farthest from the mouth :)

I had to take a picture of the pot belly pig because when Matt saw it he said - "It's Pumba!"

Pretty cool trip for the day!! We didn't make it home until 4:30 so it was a long day but well worth it!!

Enjoying us some family time with the wildlife :)
